Trainfest® Rolls Into Town With New Technologies and Favored Traditions

Realistic locomotive sounds, computerized command stations, new display materials featured.

Milwaukee, WI, (April 4, 2007)…Trainfest®, America’s largest operating model railroad show, will be held at the Exposition Center at Wisconsin State Fair Park on Saturday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 11 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. More than 50 detailed, operating model railroad displays and scenic reproductions will be featured. In addition, 50 hobby dealers, 60 manufacturers and 12 historical groups will be represented in over 200,000 square feet of display area.

Trainfest will feature operating layouts from Z to G scale. Manufacturers will showcase the most popular trends in model railroading. Model railroad leaders including Athearn, Walthers, Lionel, Atlas, Kalmbach and Marklin will bring the latest in new products. Digitrax and Loco Sound will highlight decoders and programmers used to create realistic railroad sounds. Model railroad experts will demonstrate how to create landscapes. Other demonstrations and how-to clinics will be running both days. A large - 1 ½ inch – scale steam and diesel display will be featured. Also, railroad artists specializing in customized art pieces and recognized railroad photographers will be present.

For those who relish the traditional and nostalgic qualities of classic model railroading, displays of historically significant eras and locations will be depicted in miniature scenes ranging from logging camps to 1950’s towns. Unlike a swap meet, Trainfest focuses only on new model railroad equipment or demonstrations of new materials in operational, updated displays.

“Trainfest gets better and bigger with every year,” said John H. Tews, managing director of Trainfest. “It provides a place where grownups learn the details of building model railroad systems and improving their designs. It’s also for kids to have a chance to run some of the trains and see the layouts. We know people come because its fun, and they enjoy sharing a hobby.”

Last year, Trainfest attracted a record 21,000 attendees from across the country. The show usually brings over 160 exhibitors from as far away as Oregon, Texas, California and Florida to showcase operating model railroad layouts and miniature scenic reproductions.

A large portion of model railroading is about passing along a traditional hobby to a new generation. Areas are set up to appeal to children, particularly a circus train display and a railroad built entirely from LEGO® blocks. Children can ride one circus train replica and can operate several other systems. A favorite from last year, a train race track set up in the shape of a dog bone, will return this year, giving kids a chance to race two trains against each other. Manufacturers and vendors also bring starter train sets for those entering the hobby.

Trainfest, a 36 year tradition, is America’s largest operating model railroad show under one roof. The annual two-day event reaches train enthusiasts and families who come to see over 50 operating layouts from Z to G scale, 60 manufacturers, 50 hobby dealers, 12 historical groups, artists and photography displays and on-site demonstrations, including locomotive testing. Trainfest, a non-profit organization, is sponsored by the Wisconsin Southeastern (WISE) Division, Inc. of the National Model Railroad Association (NMRA). Admission for kids 12 and under is free when accompanied by an adult. Adult admission is $10. For more information, call 262-820-3566 or visit www.trainfest.com.
